Amazon has decided to continue its Good Omens mini-series into an ongoing series and has ordered a second season of the show. Based on the book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, the mini-series premiered in May 2019. It was well-received by critics and fans as were its leads Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as the demon Crowley (religious groups took offense at the show, though, and incorrectly lobbied Netflix to cancel it). Neil Gaiman had the following to say about the upcoming second season:
It’s 31 years since Good Omens was published, which means it’s 32 years since Terry Pratchett and I lay in our respective beds in a Seattle hotel room at a World Fantasy Convention and plotted the sequel. I got to use bits of the sequel in Good Omens — that’s where our angels came from. Terry’s not here any longer, but when he was, we had talked about what we wanted to do with Good Omens, and where the story went next. And now, thanks to BBC Studios and Amazon, I get to take it there.
The second season will consist of six episodes and will start filming later this year.
Good Omens follows the efforts of the demon Crowley and the angel Aziraphale to stop the coming of the Antichrist and the Armageddon that would ensue. It stars Michael Sheen, David Tennant, Daniel Mays, Sian Brooke, Ned Dennehy, and Nick Offerman and is based on the book Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch.
