The missing plane drama Manifest has come to an end on NBC as the show has been cancelled and will not be returning for a fourth season on the network. The news comes as somewhat of a surprise as I expected NBC to give it at least a fourth and final season. Its same-day ratings were down in its third season, but they were not terrible and it saw notable gains in delated viewing. The show was originally developed by Susan Rovner at Warner Bros. TV and she eventually moved into an executive position at NBC where she helped guide it across its three seasons. There were extensive discussions about the fate of the show over the last few weeks, but a renewal could not be worked out. The original plan was for the show to span six seasons, so perhaps the creative team felt like a fourth and final season would not do justice to the show. Series creator Jeff Rake had the following to say about the cancellation:
My dear Manifesters,
I’m devastated by NBC’s decision to cancel us. That we’ve been shut down in the middle is a gut punch to say the least. Hoping to find a new home. You the fans deserve an ending to your story. Thanks for the love shown to me, cast, and crew. #savemanifest

There were talks about the show moving to NBC’s Peacock streaming service, but apparently that plan was scrapped. Since the show comes from Warner Bros. TV, there is also a chance that it could move over to HBO Max. Prior seasons are streaming on Netflix and according to Deadline they are performing well there, so perhaps that could be a destination as well (more on that at this link). The show has developed a loyal fan following over its three-year run, so I expect them to step up and make a Call to Action on the social networks to save the show and get it shifted to a different venue. Stay tuned for more info on that.
Manifest follows the passengers and crew of a flight that disappeared for five years then mysteriously returns with time not having passed for those aboard. They try to discover the truth of what happened to them while also dealing with foreboding visions that started after their return. It stars Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J. R. Ramirez, and Luna Blaise and is executive produced by Robert Zemeckis.
