Summer is only a month away and The CW just announced its schedule for the hot months which currently has that network as the dominant player for sci fi and fantasy shows over that period. Stargirl returns for its second season, Roswell New Mexico will have its third season premiere, Dead Pixels is back for a second round, and new entry Wellington Paranormal will join the schedule (that one is a spin-off from What We Do in the Shadows?). In addition, many of that network’s shows that started in late-Winter/Spring will carry over to the Summer months which will give it over a dozen shows airing at some point across that three-month span. I have not seen a premiere date for The Outpost Season 3B, though so that may get pushed to next year.
Among the other broadcast networks, CBS should have the second season of Evil debuting at some point, though it has still not received a premiere date. And I am guessing the second season of Blood & Treasure could also finally arrive at some point in the Summer. ABC, FOX, and NBC have no genre scripted shows currently on the schedule for those three months (just like last year), though NBC’s Manifest will continue airing episodes into June.
Among the cable networks, there are only a few genre selections on the schedule so far. The eleventh season of The Walking Dead will kick off in late August, and Freeform’s Motherland Fort Salem should return with its second season at some point this Summer. Syfy’s Van Helsing will continue airing out its final season, and it is possible that one of that network’s other shows in development could arrive during the Summer. But apart from that, I have not seen any other premiere dates.
The Summer slate for the streaming services is currently pretty light as well with only three confirmed premieres at the moment. Season 5B of Lucifer has its bow on May 28th which is close enough to Summer that I am counting it here. And the new Disney+ entry Loki will have its debut on June 9th (just recently moved up from the 11th). Also from Disney+, the animated What If? will have its premiere at some point in Summer. And Wellington Paranormal will stream episodes on HBO Max the day after their linear broadcast on The CW. Netflix will probably add some more shows to the schedule as that streamer tends to launch its originals without much advance notice. And Amazon’s Upload could release its second season at some point in Summer.
Below is the preliminary schedule for June thru August, but keep in mind that this could go through some changes once June rolls around. The mention of “Dead Pixels” reminded me that “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet” has just started it’s second season. It’s not really sci-fi or fantasy but I will be of interest to people that enjoy sci-fi.
It’s about a gaming company making an MMO. It’s kinda funny but the stand alone episode “A Dark Quiet Death” which has nothing to do with the rest of the series is a work of true genius. The comedy goes out of the window and instead you get a massively moving piece of storytelling about hopes and hopes being crushed. Highly recommanded.
