Ratings Results of Interest

On Monday, NBC’s Debris slipped back down to a 0.37 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 2.5 million total viewers. That one has only averaged a 0.41 rating across the eight episodes that have aired so far which is notably below the network’s current average of a 0.58 rating for same-day viewing. And Debris has not been seeing much gains from delayed viewing, so its status continues to look very shaky.

On Wednesday, The CW’s Kung Fu slipped to a 0.16 rating with 1.1 million total viewers. Those are still decent numbers for that network, and I believe this one has a good shot at a second season pickup. Many of the other CW genre shows were in repeats or preempted for the week (and all have been renewed or are in their final season), so there is not much additional ratings news of note for that network.

On Thursday, NBC’s Manifest slipped to a 0.47 rating with 3.2 million total viewers. I’m not raising any alerts on that one just yet, but it is performing below the network average and is definitely not on solid ground at the moment.  On Friday, Syfy’s Van Helsing slipped to a 0.04 rating with 197K total viewers. That show is currently in its final season. On Saturday, Final Space held steady at a 0.16 rating with 325K total viewers on Adult Swim. That one could be on track for a third season renewal.

On Sunday, HBO’s The Nevers slipped to a 0.06 rating with 448K total viewers. Those are pretty low stats for same-day viewing, but if that one continues to do well with digital and delayed viewing, it could still get a second season from the premium cable channel. Over on AMC, Fear the Walking Dead improved to a 0.26 rating with 1.1 million total viewers. That show has already been renewed for a seventh season.

Sci Fi TV News of Note

HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon has started filming.  It is set 300 years before the events of the original series and focuses on Targaryen family in Westeros.  That one is working towards a 2022 premiere . . . An animated adaptation of Tui T. Sutherland’s fantasy book series Wings of Fire is in the works at Netflix. Ava DuVernay’s Array will produce the series and ten episodes have been ordered for the first season . . . In casting news, Amer Chadha-Patel has been cast in the male lead role for Disney+’s upcoming Willow series and he will be joining Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, and Warwick Davis.   Sofia Rosinsky, Camryn Jones, Riley Lai Nelet, and Fina Strazza have been cast as the four leads in the upcoming animated adaptation of Brian K. Status Updates of Interest

For the status updates on all of the currently airing shows plus those awaiting word on their fate, go to this link.

Shadow and Bone (Netflix, Streaming 1st Season, Status – Renewal Possible): As with any Netflix original series, this show has a decent chance of sticking around for a second season. But don’t expect an extended run because the streamer tends to cap off its shows around the third or fourth season.

Into the Dark (Hulu, 2nd Season Ended, Status – Renewal Possible): This horror-movie-a-month anthology went dormant for several months due to the production shutdowns, but resumed releasing new episodes in Spring 2021 and has now wrapped up its second season. There is no word yet on whether it will continue into a third year, but it has been well-received so far and could be back for another round of horror tales.
