Sci Fi TV Listing for the Week of April 26th: Premieres for Legends of Tomorrow S6, The Handmaid’s Tale S4

Weekly roundup of science fiction and fantasy shows (as well as movies/specials of note) on the Prime Time TV schedule, also including programs that may be of interest to genre fans. Air dates and times subject to change without notice.

Sci Fi/Fantasy TV Shows Premiering This Week

Two series joins the schedule this week as The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow has its long-awaited sixth season return on Sunday and Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale returns for its COVID-delayed fourth season on Wednesday

Legends of Tomorrow (CW): The Legends continue their new mission to protect the timeline from temporal aberrations – unusual changes to history that spawn potentially catastrophic consequences. When Nate, the grandson of J.S.A. member Commander Steel, unexpectedly finds himself with powers, he must overcome his own insecurities and find the hero within himself. Ultimately, the Legends will clash with foes both past and present, to save the world from a mysterious new threat. Season 6 premieres Sunday at 9 PM EST.

The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu): The cultural phenomenon picks up where we left off, with June’s fight for freedom against Gilead. But the risks she takes bring unexpected and dangerous new challenges, and her desire for justice and revenge threaten to consume her and destroy her most cherished relationships. The first three Season 4 episodes will be available for streaming on Wednesday, and the show will release one per week after that.

Other Schedule Notes

Wrapping up this week is MacGyver which will have its two-hour series finale on CBS on Friday. That show was cancelled by the network, but fans are lobbying for a sixth season. Also of note this week, NBC’s Manifest will air a double episode on Thursday. And with Legends of Tomorrow moving to Sundays, it will take over the 8 PM EST timeslot with Batwoman moving to 9 PM , and Charmed will be heading back to Fridays at 8 PM EST starting next week (it is preempted this week).

  1. Starting in the UK this week, on the 30th is Sky’s “Intergalactic” which sounds suspiciously like the Blakes 7 remake that Sky bought the rights to but never proceeded with, but with a female main cast.

Leader to be declare an enemy of the state – Check
Sentenced to an offworld prison colony for a crime they didn’t commit – Check
Escapes with a motley crew of prisoners en-route – Check
    Steals a ship – Check
Travels the galaxy fighting the evil fascist ̶F̶e̶d̶e̶r̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ Commonworld – Check

Yeah it’s basically Blake 7. Not sure about any international broadcasts as of yet.

    1. Thanks for the info. Have not seen anything on it over here in the States. Keep us updated on if it is worth seeking out.

    1. Thanks, corrected now. Had to prepare that post earlier than usual and TV Guide did not have the Sunday May 2nd schedule updated yet.
