Staying true to form, Netflix will be wrapping up its original Anime Castlevania with its upcoming fourth season. That streamer’s original series tend to last no more than three to four seasons because of the diminishing returns on new subscribers each new season. Animated originals sometimes do go longer (Voltron: Legendary Defender lasted eight seasons and The Dragon Prince has been renewed through its seventh season), though usually the ones that have more appeal to younger viewers. Castlevania is more of an adult-oriented Anime and apparently Netflix execs decided that its fourth season was a good point to wrap it up. Whether that had anything to do with the misconduct allegations surrounding series creator Warren Ellis is unclear. But the streamer is looking to start up a new series in the same universe with different characters and without involvement from Ellis. No further specifics on the spin-off are available at this time. The show has been well-received by fans and critics so far, currently holding a 92% Fresh Rating and 88% Audience Score at Rotten Tomatoes. The final season of Castlevania is scheduled to debut on Netflix on May 13.
Castlevania follows monster hunter Trevor Belmont who fights against Dracula and his supernatural army with the assistance of the magician Sypha Belnades and Dracula’s dhampir son Alucard. The voice cast includes Richard Armitage, James Callis, Graham McTavish, Alejandra Reynoso, Tony Amendola, and Matt Frewer and the series is based on the video games of the same name.
