Ratings Results of Interest
On Thursday of last week, NBC’s sci fi series Manifest returned for its third season and posted a 0.65 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with four million total viewers. Those numbers are down from its second season but still ahead of the network’s current average for non-repeat, non-special, non-sports programming. I expect that it will slip some in the coming weeks as is the typical trend after the season premiere, but if this one averages above a 0.5 score based on the same-day numbers and continues to perform well in delayed viewing as it did in its first two seasons, it should have a decent shot at a fourth-year renewal.
On Monday on NBC, new series Debris came tumbling down to a 0.34 rating in the demo with 2.6 million total viewers. That show continues to struggle and continues to lose a large chunk of its lead-in audience and needs a boost from fans to help convince network execs to keep it around for a second season (more on that at this link). Over on TNT on Monday, Snowpiercer averaged a 0.23 rating with 841K total viewers across its two-hour Season 2 finale. That one has already been renewed for a third season.
On Tuesday on The CW, Supergirl returned for its sixth and final with numbers down from last year as it posted a 0.14 rating with 725K total viewers. Leading in to that, The Flash had a 0.21 rating with 909K total viewers. On Wednesday on The CW, Nancy Drew slipped to a series low 0.05 score with 376K total viewers. That show is apparently making up the difference with digital viewing because it has already been renewed for a third season. Over on Syfy on Wednesday, Resident Alien took a surprising drop with its season finale as it slipped to a 0.14 rating and 1.1 million total viewers. But it has already been renewed for a second season.
On Friday on Syfy, Wynonna Earp slipped to a series low 0.03 rating with 201K total viewers. Fans need to continue efforts to keep that one trending as it wraps up its fourth season and also get the digital viewing numbers up to help out as the producers shop it around to other networks. Over on CBS on Friday, MacGyver improved to a 0.49 rating with 4.3 million total viewers. That one should be on track for a sixth season renewal unless the lawsuit over the rights to the show derails it.
On Saturday, Final Space slipped a tick to a 0.15 rating with 263K total viewers on Adult Swim. That show is still doing well enough for a late-night cable entry and could continue to a fourth season. On Sunday on AMC, The Walking Dead improved to a 0.60 rating with 2.1 million total viewers for its Season 10 finale with a Negan-centric episode. That show will be returning in August to kick off its eleventh and final season.
