Ratings Results of Interest
On Sunday, AMC’s The Walking Dead slipped to a new series low of a 0.55 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 1.9 million total viewers. The Season 10 bonus episodes have been slower and more focused on small groups of characters, so perhaps the lower viewership makes sense. But the fact that the Walking Dexit continues for this franchise suggests that AMC can only expect diminishing returns for the spin-offs it currently has in the works.
I missed the return of Final Space on Adult Swim the prior week as that one has kicked off its third season on Saturdays at 10:30 PM EST. Its Season 3 premiere had a 0.19 rating in the demo with 368K total viewers and this past Saturday it pulled a 0.16 score with 335K total viewers. Those numbers are down from its second season, but still decent for a basic cable show these days. And since animated entries have proven more pandemic-proof, I would say this one has a chance of sticking around for a fourth season.
On Monday of last week, NBC’s Debris slipped back down a little bit, pulling a 0.41 rating in the demo with 2.8 million total viewers. I will be moving that one to Bubble status, but it still has a chance and fans should definitely make some noise to support the show. On Tuesday on The CW, The Flash improved a tick to a 0.23 rating with 979K total viewers while Superman & Lois lifted to a 0.26 rating with 1.2 million total viewers. Both shows have already been renewed.
On Wednesday on Syfy, Resident Alien slipped to a 0.17 rating with 1.2 million total viewers, but those remain good numbers for that network and the show has already been renewed for a second season. On Friday, MacGyver slipped to a 0.44 rating with 4.3 million total viewers for CBS after two weeks off. But that one still appears to be on track for a sixth season renewal. Over on Syfy, Wynonna Earp improved to a 0.06 rating with 296K total viewers and fans continue to fight for a fifth season of that show.

Sci Fi TV News of Note
Starz has cancelled its fantasy series American Gods–based on the Niel Gaiman novel of the same name–after three seasons. That show is expensive to produce and its same-day viewership numbers dropped by 65% in its third year. There are talks for a possible movie finale that could wrap up the series . . . George R.R. Martin has signed a five-year development deal with HBO. He will be involved with the various Game of Thrones spin-off series–six are currently in the works–and he will be developing new properties as well . . . Ronald D. Moore, who brought us 2003’s Battlestar: Galactica and 2014’s Outlander, is developing the fantasy series A Court of Thorns and Roses for Hulu. It is based on the books by Sarah J. Maas, and the author will be closely involved with the production as well . . . Heavy Metal magazine is getting into TV series development and is working on an adaptation of Blake Northcott’s trilogy of novels Arena Mode Saga. There is no word at this point if that will be animated or live-action and no network is currently attached. Be sure to follow r/SciFiTV for news, schedule updates, trailers, discussions, and more.
Status Updates of Interest
For the status updates on all of the currently airing shows plus those awaiting word on their fate, go to this link.
Invincible (Amazon, Streaming 1st Season, Status – Renewal Possible): As with most streaming originals, this show has a decent chance of sticking around for a second season. And as a rather high-profile series for Amazon’s Prime Video, this one could potentially continue for several years.
DOTA: Dragon’s Blood (Netflix, Streaming 1st Season, Status – Renewal Possible): As with any Netflix original series, this show has a decent chance of sticking around for a second season. The streamer does tend to cap off its shows around the third or fourth season, but sometimes the animated ones stick around longer.
