Ratings Results of Interest

NBC’s new sci fi series Debris got off to a decent start ratings-wise a couple of weeks ago but has seen its numbers drop notably over the last two weeks. Last Monday, the show dropped to a 0.36 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 3.4 million total viewers. That was a decline of nearly 40% from its premiere the prior week and it lost 65% of its lead-in audience from The Voice. The preliminaries from last night show it at a 0.40 rating (those are rounded to the nearest tenth) which indicates it did not rebound from last week’s numbers. That has the show notably below the network’s average and I will be moving it to Bubble status. The broadcast networks may be leery of cancelling shows in the current pandemic-impacted environment, though, so if fans make enough noise this show might still survive to a second season.

Over on TNT on Monday, Snowpiercer slowed down a bit to a 0.22 rating with 827K total viewers, but that one has already been renewed for a third season. Black Lightning improved to a 0.16 rating with 455K total viewers for The CW as it plays out its final season. On Tuesday on The CW, The Flash ticked down to a 0.29 rating with 989K total viewers while Superman & Lois ticked up to a 0.28 rating with 1.3 million total viewers. Both of those have already been renewed.

On Wednesday, Syfy’s Resident Alien slipped to a 0.19 rating with 1.1 million total viewers, but that show continues to perform well for that network. Over on The CW, Riverdale and Nancy Drew returned from a week off and posted a 0.14 rating with 523K total viewers and a 0.13 score with 522K total viewers respectively. Both shows have already been renewed. On Friday, Wynonna Earp held steady at a 0.09 rating with 276K total viewers as producers try to find a new home for that show after Syfy has cancelled it.

On Sunday, AMC’s The Walking Dead continued to see its numbers slip as it dropped to a 0.57 rating with 2.2 million total viewers. That show has been renewed for an eleventh and final season. Over on Starz, American Gods improved slightly to a 0.03 rating with 153K total viewers, but that one remains very much On the Bubble. On The CW, Batwoman and Charmed returned after a week off and posted a 0.11 rating with 552 total viewers and a 0.09 score with 396 tot viewers respectively. Both shows have already been renewed.

Sci Fi TV News of Note

Coming as no surprise, Starz has extended a seventh season renewal to its fantasy romance Outlander. The sixth season is currently in production and will premiere later this year, and the show has performed consistently well with the network’s target audience. The seventh season will be comprised of twelve episodes as will the sixth . . . The television adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s superhero anthology book series Wild Cards is making a change of venues.  Development of that property began at Hulu in 2018, but it is now moving to NBC’s Peacock streaming service.  Martin is not directly involved in the production . . . Also at Peacock, Battlestar: Galactica executive producer David Eick is developing a new sci fi series The Zone of Silence.  That will follow a husband and wife team investigating mysterious events occurring around the area known as the “Bermuda Triangle of Mexico”.  That show is currently in the early stages of development. Status Updates of Interest

For the status updates on all of the currently airing shows plus those awaiting word on their fate, go to this link.

Amazing Stories (Apple TV+, 1st Season Ended, Status – Ended): It has been over a year since this show debuted and there has been no word on its fate, so I am going to assume at this point that there will not be a second season. There may be licensing issues with this one, and after the tepid reception to the first season, the streamer may have just lost interest in continuing it.  Perhaps another season could show up at some point, but that seems unlikely.

Dragon’s Dogma (Netflix, 1st Season Ended, Status – On the Bubble): Netflix already has the Dragon Prince Anime as one of the streamer’s originals, and the new Anime DOTA: Dragon’s Blood premieres March 25th.  Perhaps they forgot they have another original Anime with dragon in its title?  It’s definitely not a good sign that there has been no word on this show since it premiered in September 2020, so I am moving it to Bubble status.
