Ratings Results of Interest

NBC’s new science fiction series Debris had its debut last Monday and pulled a 0.59 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 4.4 million total viewers. The show lost 47% of the lead-in audience from The Voice, but its ratings score is right in line with the network’s average this season and not bad for the 10 PM EST hour. It will likely slip in the coming weeks as new shows typically do, but if this one can manage to average around a 0.5 rating based on same-day viewing and/or see significant delayed viewing gains, it could stick around for a second season.

Over on TNT on Monday, Snowpiercer slowed just a bit to a 0.25 rating with 905K total viewers. That one has already been renewed for a third season. Over on The CW on Tuesday, The Flash returned for its seventh season and pulled a 0.30 rating in the demo with right at one million total viewers. That is down from last year’s numbers, but pretty much all shows are seeing year-over-year declines these days. In the lead-out hour, Superman & Lois slipped to a 0.27 rating with 1.2 million total viewers after curious onlookers who watched the premiere the prior week tuned out. But those are still good numbers for The CW these days, and both that show and The Flash have already been renewed.

On Syfy on Wednesday, Resident Alien dropped just a tick from the prior week, pulling a 0.22 rating with 1.2 million total viewers. That is the network’s highest-rated scripted series in a while, though, and a second season renewal is looking like a good bet. On Friday on Syfy, Wynonna Earp returned for the second half of its fourth season and had a 0.09 rating with 338K total viewers. That show has been cancelled by the network, but the producers are shopping it around. Over on CBS, MacGyver slipped to a 0.45 rating with 4.5 million total viewers after taking a week off. It still appears to be on track for a sixth season renewal, though.

On Sunday, AMC’s The Walking Dead slipped to an all-time low 0.65 rating with 2.3 million total viewers.  That show has been renewed for an eleventh and final season, but the Walking Dexit continues for that franchise which is not a good sign for the planned spin-offs.  Over on Starz, American Gods slipped out of the cable Top 150 again as that show remains very much On the Bubble.  Those numbers will be updated on the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site when available.

Sci Fi TV News of Note

Coming as no surprise, The CW has extended a second season renewal to its new Arrow-verse entry Superman & Lois after it got off to a strong start ratings-wise. That show will take a short break later this month due to COVID-related delays and then resume new episodes in May . . . Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers will be teaming up with Steven Spielberg on a new television project. They will be adapting the fantasy horror book The Talisman, written by Stephen King and Peter Straub, as a television series for Netflix . . . The long-in-the-works Galaxy Quest TV series may be back on again. In an interview with Collider, Sigourney Weaver indicated that writers are working on a story for the show, but nothing definite is in place yet. Status Updates of Interest

For the status updates on all of the currently airing shows plus those awaiting word on their fate, go to this link.

Pacific Rim The Black (Netflix, Streaming 1st Season, Status – Renewed): This show received a two-season order in advance of its premiere. Animated originals from Netflix do tend to stick around longer than the live-action shows, so it could continue for a few more years.

Pennyworth (EPIX, Airing 2nd Season, Status – Renewal Possible): This Batman prequel series received very little promotion from its network prior to its second season return, and Nielsen does not report ratings results for EPIX so it is hard to gauge the status of this one. But this is a high-profile series for the network and it could stick around for a third season.
