Breaking News: Wynonna Earp Will End Its Run on Syfy with Its Fourth Season

Syfy has announced that the second half of the fourth season of its supernatural Western series Wynonna Earp will debut March 5th and those will be the final episodes for the show on the network. Series creator Emily Andras had the following to say about the show coming to an end:

I’d like to thank our wonderful cast and crew, all of whom were instrumental in bringing Wynonna Earp to our loyal and passionate audience. We couldn’t be prouder of these last six episodes on Syfy, and are thrilled to share them with our beloved fans, who have changed our lives forever. I have been honored to tell Wynonna and her family’s story, and along with Seven24, Cineflix and CTV Sci-Fi, are hopeful we can continue to share their inspiring tales in the future.

That series comes from IDW productions, and the status of the fourth season was previously in doubt due to financial difficulties that the company was experiencing. Syfy chipped in to assure that the fourth season would move forward, though it ended up getting delayed and split into two parts due to the COVID-related production delays. Now that the final episodes of the fourth season are ready to air, the decision has been made to end the show’s run on Syfy, even though a fifth season had previously been announced.

Wynonna Earp has never drawn strong ratings for the network, but it has a very dedicated and vocal fanbase that has done much to support and draw attention to the show over the years. The show’s producers will attempt to shop it around to other venues, and I expect that fans will make plenty of noise on the social networks to support that effort. Stay tuned for more info on that.

Wynonna Earp follows the great-great-granddaughter of Wyatt Earp who inherits her father’s magical gun and her family’s legacy fighting supernatural beings who pose a threat to the people living in and around the Ghost River Triangle, a cursed territory near the Canadian Rockies. It stars Melanie Scrofano, Shamier Anderson, Tim Rozon, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, and Katherine Barrell, and it is based on the IDW comic of the same name.

We are still waiting to hear word on quite a number of other genre shows like HBO’s Lovecraft Country, Netflix’s Cursed, and Apple TV+’s Amazing Stories, so stay tuned for more announcements.
