Netflix’s original sci fi film The Midnight Sky entering into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of December 21st to 27th. That George Clooney film moved into the Number 4 slot during its first week of release. Still holding on in the Top 10 was Disney+’s The Mandalorian which wrapped up its second season the prior week but continues to draw viewership as it placed at Number 5 in the rankings. Dropping out of the rankings was Supernatural which had a three-week stint in the Top 10 after its fifteenth and final season became available on Netflix. Amazon’s The Expanse was in the second week of its fifth season but did not place in the Top 10 for a second week in a row.
The Nielsen Streaming Ratings rank the shows/movies on Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, and Hulu based on the number of minutes watched during the week by U.S. viewers on television sets (mobile devices are not included at this point). The numbers are extrapolated based on the Nielsen sampling of families who have meters monitoring their viewing habits. Also note, shows with more episodes available will tend to have a higher number of minutes watched. Following are the genre shows in the Top 10 for the week which includes the estimated minutes viewed (the prior week rank is in parenthesis).
