Ratings Results of Interest
On Sunday, Batwoman had its Season 2 premiere on The CW and posted only a 0.15 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 659K total viewers. That same-day score is on the low side, especially for a season premiere, for a non-Summer CW entry and the total viewers stat is pretty anemic as well. That is also down notably from the 0.27 rating that the show averaged in its first year. But digital viewing does help the CW shows and could give this one a lift. The same-day numbers act as a leading indicator, though, so I will keep a close eye on this one in the coming weeks.
Over on Starz on Sunday, American Gods improved a tick to a 0.05 rating, but that number is still pretty low and the 185 totals viewers stat does not look promising for either. I have said for a while that this could be the final season for this show and I am now officially moving it to Bubble status. Over on BBC America, The Watch remained low at a 0.04 rating with 242K total viewers, and I will likely be putting that one On the Bubble starting next week.
On Friday, MacGyver scored a 0.55 rating with six million total viewers for CBS as that one continues to perform relatively well on a typically low-viewership night. On Thursday, Star Trek: Discovery had a 0.16 rating and 1.6 million total viewers for CBS as it journeys towards the end of its encore run.
On Tuesday, The CW’s Two Sentence Horror stories averaged a 0.11 rating with 482K total viewers for its two-episode premiere. That one has already been renewed for a third season. In the lead-out hour, I had thought that Trickster was just a procedural, but apparently it has supernatural elements so I will be including it here (and adding it to the Weekly Listings). It scored a 0.09 rating with 441K total episodes for its premiere on the network, and that Canadian import has already been renewed for a second season.

Sci Fi TV News of Note
TNT has renewed its dystopian sci fi series Snowpiercer for a third season ahead of its second season premiere. That show performed relatively well in linear viewing during its first season and also saw notable gains on the network’s digital platform . . . A Dungeons and Dragons TV series is currently in the works with John Wick writer Derek Kolstad onboard. No network is attached to this one at this point . . . Stargate alum Joseph Mallozzi is currently working on a television adaptation of Brian McClellan’s Powder Mage fantasy novels. He is writing the pilot based on the Promise of Blood book with plans to stay on as showrunner if the series is pickup up.
Status Updates of Interest
For the status updates on all of the currently airing shows plus those awaiting word on their fate, go to this link.
A Discovery of Witches (Shudder, Streaming 2nd Season, Status – Renewed): This show proved to be a hit for Sky One in its first season and has performed well in streaming in the United States. It has already been renewed through its third season.
Into the Dark (Hulu, Streaming 2nd Season, Status – Renewal Possible): This horror-movie-a-month anthology went dormant for several months due to the production shutdowns, but will finally resume airing new episodes in February with a Valentine’s Day-themed installment (title appropriately enough “Valentine’s Day”). There is no word yet on whether it will continue into a third season.
