Breaking News: Netflix Has Given Locke & Key an Early Third Season Renewal

Netflix’s supernatural drama Locke & Key had its first season premiere in February of 2020 and will be returning for its second season in 2021. Ahead of that, the streamer has decided to extend the show’s run to a third year. Production on the second season has just wrapped up and apparently Netflix wants to get a jump on the third season, so it handed out the early renewal. The series has proven popular for the streaming service so far, rising as high at Number 3 in IMBd Pro’s MOVIEmeter ranking system, with a four week average rank of 6 after its Season 1 premiere. This series, based on the comic book of the same name, took the long road to television, starting out as a pilot on FOX that the network passed on, then moving to Hulu which passed on it as well. Netflix acquired the rights to the series and has now turned it into a successful television property.

Locke & Key follows the children and mother of the Locke family who takes up residence the family home known as Keyhouse after the father is killed. The children discover mysterious keys that can unlock magical doors in the house and must keep them away from a demonic presence. It stars Darby Stanchfield, Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones, Jackson Robert Scott, and Petrice Jones, and it is based on the comic book created by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez.
