Ratings Results of Interest
On Sunday, AMC’s The Walking Dead: World Beyond held steady at a 0.15 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 618K total viewers for its season finale. But those numbers are rather low for a major franchise and this show might be On the Bubble if it was not already set for a limited, two-season run. It will return for its second season in 2021.
Over on The CW on Sunday, The Outpost took a hit from its move to Sundays, pulling only a 0.0 rating with 254K total viewers. The ratings for the broadcast networks are rounded to the nearest tenth point, but I will count it as a 0.04 score for calculation purposes. The network has already picked up that show for an additional thirteen episodes. Leading in to that, Pandora improved to a 0.1 rating with 294K total viewers.
On Tuesday, FOX’s neXt slipped to a 0.2 rating with 943K total viewers, possibly due to the holiday week. That show has already been cancelled by the network. On Monday, His Dark Materials held at a 0.06 rating with 229K total viewers. Apart from that, there were no other new episodes of genre shows aired due to the holiday week.

Cancellation Announcement
Amazon announced last week that it’s conspiracy series Utopia has been cancelled after one season. The remake of the British series of the same name received only a lukewarm reception from critics (it currently holds only a 51% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and apparently did not draw enough viewership to justify bringing it back for a second year. It is also possible that the increased production costs in the current COVID environment contributed to the show getting cancelled after one season. You can read more about the cancellation at this link.
Status Updates of Interest
For the status updates on all of the currently airing shows plus those awaiting word on their fate, go to this link.
Cursed (Netflix, 1st Season Ended, Status – Renewal Possible): This show got off to a decent start with some good buzz when it premiered in July. Most streaming originals have a better than average chance of sticking around for a second season these days, though Netflix has been in cancelling mode lately. I still like this show’s chances, but if an announcement does not come soon that could change.
Into the Dark (Hulu, Streaming 2nd Season, Status – Renewal Possible): This horror-movie-a-month anthology went dormant for several months due to the production shutdowns, but the last two Season 2 episodes should be released soon. Whether it will continue into a third season remains to be seen.
