Ratings Results of Interest

On Sunday, Syfy’s Wynonna Earp saw a slight improvement to its numbers with its mid-season finale as it posted a 0.09 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 342K total viewers.  That show is now going on hiatus because not all of its Season 4 episodes were completed due to the production shutdowns.  It is scheduled to return in early 2021 and I still like its chances for a fifth (and possibly final) season renewal.

Over on HBO on Sunday, Lovecraft Country slipped to a 0.18 rating with 747K total viewers.  That show will likely see notable gains from delayed and digital viewing (as well as encore runs), so it is still doing okay at this point.

On Tuesday, Dead Pixels held steady at a 0.1 rating with 387K total viewers on The CW. That show has already been renewed for a second season in Britain.  The 100 was preempted last week but returns September 9th to begin the countdown to its series finale.

Cancellation Announcements

The 2019-20 season is done now and the networks are apparently cleaning house and making announcements on the show still awaiting word on their fates. Netflix announcement last week that its cyberpunk series Altered Carbon will not be returning for a third season. Allegedly that show, which is expensive to produce, only barely made it to a second season and Netflix has elected not to continue it beyond that. Just announced, AMC has cancelled its low-rated supernatural drama NOS4A2 which just wrapped up its second season. The numbers for that one dropped notably in its second season, but it did get the chance to wrap up its storylines.  You can see the full rundown of the cancelled/ended shows from the 2019-20 season at this link, and you can see the rundown of those currently awaiting word on their fate at this link.

Status Updates of Interest

For the status updates on all of the currently airing shows plus those awaiting word on their fate, go to this link.

Brave New World (Peacock, Season Ended, Status – Renewal Possible): The reception for this series has been only lukewarm at best in its first season, but I would still expect Peacock to give it a second season renewal because the streamer will want to support its original series.

The Order (Netflix, Season Ended, Status – Renewal Possible): This show did not receive a lot of attention in its first year, but it did manage to get a second season renewal. Netflix has been in the cancelling mode lately, though, so it is uncertain if this one will survive to a third year. And if it does, the streamer tends to cap off its shows around the third or fourth season these days.
