This news is coming a bit late, but Siren has been cancelled by Freeform after three seasons. The announcement was apparently made on August 5th but the cancellation did not receive a lot of attention from the entertainment industry. The show had performed well for Freeform during its first two seasons, counting as one of the most-watched on the network. It’s numbers dropped off notably in its third season, but it still performed better than several other Freeform originals and had slightly better numbers than freshman series Motherland Fort Salem which was renewed. The latter is produced at Freeform Studio, though, so perhaps Disney (which owns Freeform) has more of a financial stake in that one. Siren does have a dedicated fanbase, and they currently have an online petition lobbying for a fourth season. Hulu (also owned by Disney) is streaming the first three seasons, so perhaps a fourth season could land there or move to another venue if the fans make enough noise.
Siren takes place in the coastal town of Bristol Cove which has a legend of once being home to mermaids. A mysterious woman arrives in the town proving the stories true, and this sets up a battle between humans and the sea creatures. It stars Alex Roe, Eline Powell, Ian Verdun, Rena Owen, Fola Evans-Akingbola.
