What Is It?
neXt is a new AI-themed sci fi series coming to FOX later this year. Following is the official synopsis for the show:
Silicon Valley pioneer PAUL LEBLANC built a fortune and legacy on the world-changing innovations he dreamed up, while ignoring and alienating the people around him, including his own daughter, ABBY, and his short-sighted younger brother, TED, who now runs Paul’s company. After discovering that one of his own creations – a powerful A.I. called neXt – might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother, leaving him with nothing but mounting dread about the fate of the world. When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent SHEA SALAZAR. Now, LeBlanc and Salazar are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent superintelligence that, instead of launching missiles, will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data all around us to recruit allies, turn people against each other and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.

Status
Originally scheduled to join FOX’s schedule midway through the 2019-20 season, this show’s premiere was delayed and it looked like it was headed for a Summer run–a typically low-viewership time of year. That generally happens when the network execs have lost faith in a show, but due to the Coronavirus-related shutdowns, FOX decided to move it to a Fall start because most of the show’s regular shows will not be ready with new episodes by that time. That should work in the favor of NeXt and give it a better chance of finding an audience. It is being billed as an “event” series, but if the show post good numbers, it could stick around beyond its first season. You can keep up with status updates at the show’s page on this site.
