NBC announced late Friday that its supernatural procedural The InBetween will not be returning a second season. That news comes as no surprise as the show drew moderate at best ratings during its Summer run. It was originally intended for a mid-year debut during the 2018-19 season, but was pushed to a Summer start which is often a red flag. It actually debuted with decent ratings for a Summer entry, but those slipped through the show’s first season and the network preempted it twice early in its run which did nothing to help its viewership. By all appearances, the network seemed to have given up on the show before it aired and dumped it on the Summer schedule as a burn-off run. The InBetween actually matched the same-day ratings of the CBS Summer entry Blood and Treasure which received a second season renewal. But that latter series may have also had international deals that made it more profitable for the network.
The InBetween focuses on a woman who has a power she does not want: she can communicate with the dead and help them work through problems unresolved while they were living. She is drawn into an FBI investigation and uses her ability to help solve crimes. It stars Harriet Dyer, Justin Cornwell, Cindy Luna, Anne-Marie Johnson, and Paul Blackthorne.
There are still several shows from the 2018-19 season that are awaiting word on their fate such as The Terror, The InBetween, and The Rook. I can’t believe you are canceling the InBetween….oh no wait….YES I CAN….YOU GUYS CANCEL ALL THE GOOD SHOWS AND LEAVE NOTHING BUT GARBAGE ON……I’m so tired of you not considering the viewers over 60…..what in the heck do you think we do at night….we watch tv and order stuff off amazon…….try doing a viewing survey on the older group……..
We didn’t cancel, that was NBC. But I would agree that the networks don’t pay too much attention to the viewers over 60.
This is horrible. The InBetween was a great show that I could not wait to watch each week. Why does NBC cancel so many great shows? @NBC this show was a lot better than the Walking Dead to me. I wish they had moved it to one of their cable channels instead of canceling it. It makes no sense that the are canceling some of the much hyped remake shows too like Will and Grace. I’m so disappointed with this.
