It was a busy day for renewals as three freshman genre shows have been handed second season renewal notices. Among those, only Netflix’s space drama Another Life seemed to be facing an uncertain future. Series star Katee Sackhoff announced the renewal on Twitter and Netflix has since confirmed a ten-episode second season order.

The streaming service does not share its viewing numbers, but Another Life has not been well received by fans or critics, currently holding only a 6% Fresh Rating and a 61% Audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. But Netflix has a high renewal rate for its first season shows and apparently decided to give this one time to perhaps win over its audience. The second season will debut at some point in 2020.
Coming as no surprise, AMC’s Shudder streaming service has given a second season renewal for its horror anthology Creepshow. That one debuted earlier this Fall and has set viewership records for the horror-focused streamer. It is based on the 1982 movie by Stephen King and George A. Romero and follows a similar anthology format inspired by comics of the 50’s like the infamous EC titles. There is no word yet on how many episodes have been ordered for the second season.
The third renewal of the day was for the EPIX Batman prequel series Pennyworth. I have not seen any viewership numbers for the series because Nielsen does not track the shows for that cable network (or my sources don’t pick them up), but apparently it has drawn enough attention to carry it into a second season. This was a rather high-profile venture for the cabler, so they likely have a notable investment in the series and wanted to assure that it would stick around for at least a few years. The second season will consist of ten episodes and will debut at some point in 2020.
There are still several shows from the 2018-19 season that are awaiting word on their fate such as The Terror, The InBetween, and The Rook.
