What Is It?
In the third season of Black Lighting Jefferson Pierce continues his crusade against crime as the superhero Black Lightning along with his two super-powered daughters. Following is the synopsis for the Season 3 premiere:
We find Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) like never before, in the hands of the ASA with his wife Lynn (Christine Adams) as Agent Odell (guest star Bill Duke) tightens his grip on the Pierce family, leaving Jennifer (China Ann McClain) abandoned and Freeland without Black Lightning and Thunder. But Anissa (Nafessa Williams) secretly defies Odell in her alter ego as Blackbird with the able tactical and technical support of Gambi (James Remar).
Word is that characters from Black Lightning will be part of this year’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. Whether that means this series will officially be brought into that universe remains to be seen. More on that at this link.

Status
The ratings have not been great for this show, but it might make up some of the slack with digital viewing and its encore runs on Netflix. Once a CW show has made it past its second season, the network usually keeps it around for at least 70 episodes, so I expect another season and possibly more from Black Lightning assuming that the network does not shake things up after the Crisis event. You can keep up with the ratings results and further status updates during the season at the show’s page on this site.
