The 2018-19 season has wrapped up and the Fall 2019 season has begun, but there are still quite a number of shows from last year that are awaiting a renewal or cancellation announcement. Below is the rundown on those and you can see the full list of renewed and cancelled shows from the 2018-19 season at this link.
The longer that a network takes to announce a renewal, the lower the chances are that a show will return, especially those that have only had one season so far. If fans want more from these shows, then now is the time to take to the social networks with a Call to Action to bring them more attention. We’ve seen shows like The Expanse and Lucifer saved in the past when fans made their voices heard, and a show of support (such as voting in our Season End Poll) could benefit any or all of the entries on this list.

Another Life (Netflix, Status: On the Bubble): Netflix tried to make a big splash with this space drama, pulling in genre veteran Katee Sackhoff, but that does not appear to have worked out too well. The buzz on this show has not been good thus far, and it only has a 6% Fresh Rating at Rotten Tomatoes (though at least it has a 61% Audience Score). This streamer tends to give its shows at least two seasons, but Another Life is rather expensive to produce and may get end up getting cut short after only one.
Black Mirror (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): The fifth season of this show debuted in June, but there is still no word on renewal. Netflix tends to cap its shows off around the third or fourth season mark, but this one is a bit different. Each season is rolled out as an event, and since it is an anthology viewers do not have to be current with prior seasons to pick the show up. I expect at least one more season from this acclaimed series if not more.
Black Summer (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): Yet another Netflix entry, this zombie-pocalypse show (that may or may not be linked to Z Nation) has flown mostly under the radar since its debut in April. But the streamer tends to give its shows at least two seasons and this is not an expensive series, so it could be back for another year.
Cloak and Dagger (Freeform, Status: On the Bubble): The ratings for this show were down notably in its second season, dropping it to levels that have resulted in other shows getting cancelled on Freeform. And there has been no word on its fate since it wrapped up in Spring. But it is part of the Marvel Universe, it is on a Disney-owned network, and a crossover is planned with the upcoming third season of Runaways which debuts on Hulu (also Disney-owned) in December. Another season for Cloak and Dagger is possible, but that could shift to Hulu or the upcoming Disney+ service.
Dark Web (Amazon, Status: Renewal Possible): Amazon was certainly hoping this quasi-anthology could be its Black Mirror, but it has not been able to achieve the same level of buzz. Still, this is likely not an expensive series for the streamer, so a second season is possible.
The InBetween (NBC, Status: On the Bubble): This Summer entry for the peacock network comes with some baggage as it was originally planned as a mid-year entry but was shuffled off to post-season which usually indicates the network has lost faith in the series. It also suffered from preemptions early on that impacted its ratings. But its numbers were not disastrous for a Summer series (its rating in the 18-49 demographic matched the CBS Summer thriller Blood & Treasure which was renewed), so there is still a chance it could come back for a second season. But the longer NBC delays making an announcement, the less likely the show is to return.
Mars (Nat Geo, Status: On the Bubble): This docu-drama was originally intended as a mini-series, but it proved to be a global hit and Nat Geo decided to bring it back for a second season. The ratings in the U.S. dropped off notably this last year, though it may have still scored well internationally. But since the second season wrapped up in December of 2018 and there has still been no word, the chances of this one returning for a third round appear to be slim at this point.
Osmosis (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): Yet another of the many Netflix originals, this one originates from France and has received some critical acclaim as it currently holds a 100% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As with most Netflix shows, it has a chance of coming back for a second season, but the likelihood diminishes the longer it takes the streamer to make an announcement.
The Rook (Starz, Status: On the Bubble): This paranormal series barely registered in the ratings, coming in at the same levels that got the critically-acclaimed Counterpart cancelled last season by Starz. But The Rook does have more appeal to the network’s female-skewing audience than the latter series and the Nielsens do not necessarily dictate the fate of shows on the premium cable channels. Still, I would say this one is a toss-up at best to return.
Scream (VH1, Status: On the Bubble): The third season of this series was supposed to be somewhat of a reboot, but it did not draw too many viewers to the show. It has already been shuffled across networks (its first two seasons aired on MTV) and there was a three-year gap between the second and third year, so I consider it to be hanging by a thread at this point.
Stranger Things (Netflix, Status: Renewal Likely): This is Netflix’s flagship series these days, so expect a renewal announcement unless contract negotiations break down. There is a rumor that the show could end with its fourth season, but it is still driving new subscribers to the streamer, so it could stick around for a fifth season and possibly more.
SuperMansion (Crackle, Status: Renewal Possible): This animated superhero parody wrapped up its third season in May and has released a few specials between seasons as well. It has done well in its encore runs on Adult Swim and could be back for a fourth season at some point.
Tidelands (Netflix, Status: On the Bubble): This Australian-made series arrived in December of last year with little fanfare and there has been no word on it since. Netflix does tend to give its shows at least two seasons, but at this point they may have decided to let the tide go back out.
