Call to Action: Would Fans Sign Up for Disney+ or Hulu to Save Shadowhunters?

Freeform’s supernatural drama Shadowhunters (based on the Mortal Instruments books) was cancelled by the network over a year ago, but fans continue to fight for the show. Since that cancellation announcement, they have waged a multi-pronged campaign that has equaled if not surpassed the successful efforts to save two additional shows cancelled last year, Lucifer and The Expanse (the former was saved by Netflix, the latter by Amazon). But despite the devotion and tenacity of Shadowhunters fans, that show remains cancelled. They have not lost their will, though, and I suggest the next step is appeal to the bottom dollar to see if that can get Disney (the company that owns Freeform and holds the rights to the show) to budge.

It certainly seems like Shadowhunters will not return to Freeform at this point, but Disney has two streaming services that could act as a home for the series. The upcoming Disney+ launches in November of this year and will target the general audience with a leaning toward family friendly content (two Star Wars live-action shows will run on that service plus several MCU mini-series). Disney is also now the majority owner of Hulu (and will shortly have full control of the service) and will use that for original programming with more mature content (The Handmaid’s Tale will continue its run there and the adult-animated Howard the Duck is headed to that service along with several more animated Marvel shows). So if Shadowhunters were to have a fourth season, or at least a few movies, would fans sign up for one of those services?

The show has a very strong following and if Disney believes the Shadowhunters faithful could lead a surge in subscriptions, that might convince the Mouse House to bring the series back. A fan-driven push to sign up for the new Disney service and/or to add more subs to Hulu would definitely appeal to the bottom dollar and could be the final bit of effort needed to revive the show. Vote below for which option you would choose, and pass this information along to get as much participation as possible.  We will be sharing these poll results will be shared with Disney, Hulu, and Freeform, and perhaps they will finally acknowledge that this show deserves another chance.
