Sci Fi TV News Briefs: Syfy Plans Lobo Spin-Off, Orphan Black Audio Series in the Works, and More

Sci Fi TV News Briefs: Quick hits keeping you updated on sci fi and fantasy television news.

Syfy is Loco for Lobo: Syfy has announced plans for a Krypton spin-off featuring the intergalactic antihero Lobo. The character is a favorite from the comics and has been introduced in the second season of the Superman prequel series. Lobo is a notorious alien bounty hunter who is strong, dangerous, and has a bad attitude. First introduced in the Omega Men comics, he has since become a mainstay in the DC Universe. No details about the series are available at this point, but Syfy is moving forward with development.  However, Krypton just returned for its second season at series low ratings levels (stay tuned for next week’s Weekly Roundup post for a closer look at that), so it is possible that the network’s enthusiasm for the character could be cooled but the lackluster response to his first appearance on that show.

Back to Orphan Black: The story of Orphan Black will continue with a series of audio adventures that will see Tatiana Maslany returning to the franchise to narrate. These will consist of short audio episodes that will expand on the series and that will be about the “length of an average commute”. There will be written stories as well as part of a partnership between Temple Productions and Serial Box. That latter company has also worked with Marvel to produce original stories featuring Black Panther, Jessica Jones, Black Widow, and Thor.

Return to Narnia: As previously announced, Netflix plans on doing several movies and television series based on the C.S. Lewis Narnia books, and the streaming service has signed on Matthew Aldrich (Coco) to oversee the project. Currently there are plans for multiple moves and at least one ongoing series that will take place in the Narnia universe and be interconnected. Netflix already has the epic fantasy series The Witcher in the works which should debut at some point in 2020.

  1. Good luck to them. The brief appearance of Lobo was the worst part of the Krypton season 2 premiere. It gave off a super cheesy vibe akin to the worst of 1990s era syndicated Canadian produced sci-fi shows. For the sake of Krypton I hope that improves over the course of thee season…
