Netflix has cancelled its “zom com” series Santa Clarita Diet after three seasons. Creator Victor Fresco and executive producer Tracy Katsky issued the following statement after the cancellation:
Netflix took at chance on this odd show and for that we will always be grateful. They were supportive, ever positive, and appreciative of our work. Until about noon today. Still, they were just one phone call away from being a perfect studio. Not bad.
Everything ends. This was a thing. And so it ended. We’ll miss it but are proud of the work we did and will always appreciate the love and enthusiasm we felt from our audience. It if was up to them, Sheila and Joel would continue for another 10,000 years.
Just yesterday, I put up a post speculating if this series would be the latest streaming service entry to hit the three-season wall, and now that has been confirmed. I also covered in that post the strategy that fans should use if they want to try and save the show.
In Santa Clarita Diet, a suburban family has their lives turned upside down when the mother becomes a zombie and they must help her with her cravings for human flesh while trying to hide her true nature. It stars Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant, Liv Hewson, and Skyler Gisondo and completed three seasons totaling 30 episodes.
We are heading to the finish line of the regular season so expect more renewal and cancellation announcements to be rolling out in the next few weeks. Be sure to stay tuned to this site and the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for breaking news as well as the latest ratings results.
