Sci Fi TV Development: Neil Gaiman to Reboot Jim Henson’s The Storyteller, Land of Oz TV Series in the Works, Netflix to Tell Transformers Origin, and More

Development announcements continue to roll in including word that two Alien television shows are in the works and that several Star Wars sequel series are on the way. The information is still somewhat sketchy on those at the moment, but stay tuned for further details. Here is the rundown of development news from the past week.

Neil Gaiman is Rebooting Jim Henson’s The Storyteller

Description: “In the new incarnation, The Storyteller will create a mystical world combining various fairy tales and folklore. It will be updated to work ‘for the binging kind’ of viewer of today, Gaiman said.” Deadline Hollywood

Comments: The original version of The Storyteller was produced in the 80’s and ran as part of The Jim Henson Hour in the U.S.






Land of OZ TV Series in the Works

Description: “The series will examine stories and characters in Oz that haven’t been previously explored. When the return of a long-exiled Witch brings fear, division and war to Oz, the only hope is a servant girl who may become the most powerful and dangerous woman in the land.” Variety

Comments: This series will expand upon the world of Oz created by L. Frank Baum. No network is currently attached, but this one should draw plenty of interest.


Animated Transformers series War for Cybertron coming to Netflix

Comments: Netflix is targeting a 2020 debut for this series.


Web Series Based on Alien: Isolation in the Works

Description:Alien: Isolation followed the story of Ellen Ripley’s adult daughter Amanda, set fifteen years after the events of the original 1979 film. As Amanda investigates her mother’s disappearance, her own salvage spacecraft is infested by xenomorphs that massacre the crew, with Amanda desperately trying to evade the fearsome creatures and escape the ship with her life.” CBR

Comments: This is based on the Alien: Isolation survival horror game and is planned as a seven-part animated web series that will run on the official Alien website. This follows the news mentioned above that two other Alien television projects that are in the early stages of development.
