AMC announced yesterday that its post-apocalyptic martial arts drama Into the Badlands will not continue into a fourth season and will end after its final eight episodes have aired. The news does not come as a huge surprise because the show has been in limbo since airing the first half of its third season. The last new episode ran on June 17th of last year and there had been no word on the show until yesterday. Apparently the cast has been released to move on to other projects and AMC has announced that the final eight episodes will begin airing on March 24th. According to Deadline Hollywood: “the saga will climax in an epic battle to end all battles” . Into the Badlands pulled good ratings for the network during its first two seasons, but saw those drop by over fifty percent in its third season. Apparently the drop in ratings along with the fact that this is an expensive series to produce led AMC to the decision to wrap it up.
Into the Badlands takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where Barons rule over a feudal society. Sunny is a “Clipper”, a warrior who has sworn allegiance to his Baron, who finds his loyalties tested when a boy with a mysterious past arrives on the scene. It stars Daniel Wu, Orla Brady, Sarah Bolger, Aramis Knight, and Emily Beecham and will have run for three seasons totaling 32 episodes once it has concluded.
The TCAs are going on currently when the networks talk with the critics about their current and upcoming schedules, so expect more announcements over the next week or so.
