I am seeing renewal claims for two shows making the rounds on the internet, both of which I consider part of the rumor mill at this point, but there is some credibility to them. SpoilerTV has a one line post claiming that AMC has renewed The Walking Dead and TVShowsCancelled.com claims that “insiders” have informed them that NBC has “quietly renewed” Manifest for a second season. I don’t consider either of these sites to be primary sources for entertainment news, but neither renewal would come as much of a surprise. The Walking Dead has been at series-low ratings levels so far in its ninth season, but I have been saying for a while that a tenth season is pretty much guaranteed and more could follow. NBC’s Manifest debuted to very strong ratings, though the numbers dropped off some as Fall progressed. But that show regularly placed in the Top 5 among broadcast network shows based on Live+7 delayed viewing, so I have considered it a good candidate for renewal all along. It returned last week and held steady with its late Fall numbers which were still decent for its network, so it would not surprise me if NBC were to greenlight that one for another year. I will wait for an official announcement before I count either show as renewed here, but you can expect that news to break at any time over the next few weeks.
As we head into Mid-Season, expect to hear word on the Fall shows that have wrapped up like Nightflyers, Origin, and Stan Against Evil, and The CW could be making its blanket renewal statement at any time now. Be sure to stay tuned to this site and the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for breaking news as well as the latest ratings results.
