TBS had announced a third renewal for its sci fi comedy People of Earth last year, but apparently the network has changed its mind and decided not to go forward with the show according to creator David Jenkins who revealed the news on Twitter over the weekend. Following are the two tweets that Jenkins put out about the show:
Just got word last night: TBS has cancelled People of Earth. Thank you to everyone who was a fan of the show and enjoyed its gentle, amiable sci-fi weirdness. It was an honor sharing this show with you. Let’s do it again soon. Love you all. https://t.co/QViyRi0RNF

Season three, which is already written, will not be shot. Season two is the last season. https://t.co/MNRlecLAQJ

The second season of the series had performed pretty close to the numbers of the first year ratings-wise, and production of the show had been moving forward with scripts having been written. TBS has made no comment on the cancellation at this point, so it is uncertain why the network decided to sack the third season at this late hour. There is no word on whether the show will be shopped around to other venues, but if fans raise enough noise on the social networks then perhaps that third season could still happen.
People of Earth follows an support group for alien abductees living in a small town in New York state. It stars Wyatt Cenac, Ana Gasteyer, Oscar Nuñez, Michael Cassidy, and Alice Wetterlund.
There are still a few more shows from the regular season awaiting word on their fates such as Timeless, Into the Badlands, and Altered Carbon. Be sure to follow CancelledSciFi.com and the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for updates and breaking news on these shows and more.
