The Expanse Could Join Amazon’s Lineup of Originals
Ever since Syfy announced that it was dropping its popular spaced-based series The Expanse over a week ago, fans have taken to the social networks and more and lobbied for another venue to pick the show up for a fourth season. And news broke this afternoon that Amazon just might be the one to save the show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming service is in talks with Alcon Entertainment and they are near to a deal that would bring the show over to the streaming service for a fourth season and hopefully more. Amazon currently has the streaming rights to past seasons of the show in the United States whereas Netflix has those internationally. The latter service passed on the show, and so Amazon is now in the process of hammering out a deal. Nothing has been finalized (even though the THR article has the title ‘The Expanse’ Revived for Season 4 at Amazon), and the streaming giant has made no comment on the negotiations at this point. But fans should see this as a very good sign and should also stay active on the social networks to continue and show their support.
Last week, fans paid to have banner flown over Amazon studios with “#SaveTheExpanse” as the message. Just today a GoFundMe campaign was put together to send a scale replica of the Rocinante into space(!), and that exceeded its $4,000 goal in just a few hours. There is also an online petition that has surpassed 130K signatures and is on target to hit 150K in a day or two. On top of that, fans have had #SaveTheExpanse trending on the social networks and they staged a tweet storm during the live broadcast of the episode last week (more on ongoing fan efforts at this link). Considering the fan support plus the fact that the show has received high praise from critics and is highly-rated by Rotten Tomatoes, Amazon should definitely have a strong interest in picking this one up. Lucifer Has Two More Episodes Set to Air Next Week
FOX announced the cancellation of its supernatural series Lucifer over a week ago, and since then fans have been lobbying hard for another network or one of the streaming services to pick the show up. Even series star Tom Ellis has gotten involved with saving the show and has said that “a conversation has been sparked” about possibly bringing it back for a fourth season, though he has not elaborated on that. As fans wait to hear if their efforts to save the show will prove successful, a little bit of additional good news has come their way this week. Two more episodes have been produced and will air on Monday May 28th. Those are standalone episodes that will not provide any resolution for the season-ending cliffhanger, but at least the fans have two more hours of their favorite show to look forward to. These eps were produced earlier in the season and had been planned as hold-overs if the show continued to a fourth year (this all goes back to last year when FOX decided to hold four Season 2 eps until this year). The two episodes will air back-to-back this coming Monday and that gives fans an opportunity for another tweet storm during the live broadcast to get the show trending and to prove it has a larger following that the Nielsen ratings would suggest.
