Cancellation Watch: Fear the Walking Dead Returns Strong for its Fourth Season

Ratings Results of Interest: On Sunday, AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead had its fourth season debut following the TWD season finale and it posted a 1.6 rating based on same day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 4.1 million total viewers. That tops it ratings from its third season and was the highest score that it had since its second year. Lennie James made the crossover to the spin-off series with this episode which likely brought some viewers over, and the boost from the TWD season finale likely helped as well. The parent show posted a 3.4 rating with 7.9 million total viewers which were the best numbers that show has seen since its mid-season premiere. Next week’s numbers will determine how many of the curious onlookers following Morgan’s transition to Fear the Walking Dead will stick around, but for now that one is off to a good start.

Over on Starz, Ash vs. Evil Dead improved slightly to a 0.08 rating with 175k total viewers, but that show is currently firmly On the Bubble. Over on FOX, The Last Man on Earth slipped to a 0.6 rating with 1.4 million total viewers while NBC’s Timeless slipped to a 0.5 rating with 2.5 million total viewers. All three of those shows could use a Call to Action from fans on the social networks because their fates are very much in doubt at the moment.

On Friday, Agents of SHIELD slipped to a 0.5 rating with 1.8 million total viewers, but that one may still have a chance of sticking around for a sixth season. MacGyver held at a 0.8 rating with 6.4 million total viewers, and I’m still thinking that one will be able to finagle a third season renewal.
