TNT’a fantasy series The Librarians will not be coming back for a fifth season on that network according to a tweet from the show’s executive producer Dean Devlin.
Just got the official call. TNT has cancelled #TheLibrarians – I will immediately begin the process of trying to move the show elsewhere. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!

That show’s ratings were down in its fourth year, but the news still comes as somewhat of a surprise. The Librarians has a very dedicated fanbase that keeps the show trending on Twitter, and its ratings were still okay for a cable series these days. But the network is going through a period of rebranding, and apparently they decided the veteran show did not fit in as well with their new look (The Last Ship is also rumored to be on the chopping block after its upcoming fifth season). Devlin has indicated that he will be shopping the show to other venues, and now is the time for fans to support it on the social networks. Following the example of the current StargateNow initiative as well as the fan efforts to save Timeless last year, a strong Call to Action from fans can go a long way to making it more attractive to other networks.
The Librarians follows a group that protects ancient artifacts of great power stored in the library and also seeks out items that should be added to the collection to keep them, and the world, safe. It stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Harlan Kim, and John Larroquette.
Expect more renewal and cancellation announcements as we head into the final months of the current season. Be sure to keep an eye on this site as well as the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site for updates and breaking news.
“The Librarians” was actually a very sweet TV series, with a great message about knowledge & learning, even though the magic stuff was probably more important to most viewers. It felt like “new old-school”, a bit similar to “The Orville”. Hope someone picks it up.
As for “The Last Ship”, the 4th season was one of the worst pieces of serial TV I’ve ever seen, even worse than “Hunters”, which says a lot. The first 3 seasons still had engaging plots, and the production value was good, but the 4th time around all that was out of the window, as if the writers, makers & actors themselves didn’t care about it anymore, as if they knew they were on a sinking ship (metaphorically). If they don’t return to the early vibe of the series, if season 5 looks & feels as lackluster and stupid as season 4, they should better cancel it.
