Ratings Results of Interest: It was a pretty slow week with plenty of shows on their Winter break, but there were still several sci fi & fantasy entries that aired new eps during the week. On Wednesday, TNT’s The Librarians averaged a 0.29 rating based on same day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 1.4 million total viewers for its double-episode airing, about even with its Season 4 debut numbers. I believe this show is on track for a fifth season renewal, but airing back-to-back episodes has not worked in its favor as it sees a notable drop at the 9 PM EST hour. Starting in January, the show will air just one episode per night and that could help its season average improve. Over on Syfy, Happy! held at a 0.17 rating with 619K total viewers. If it remains in this range, then it should have a happy ending to the season with a second year renewal.
On Thursday, Syfy’s Van Helsing saw a nice rebound from the series low numbers it pulled the prior week and scored a 0.16 rating (highest of the season) with 486K total viewers. That has to make the network executives feel a bit better about the Season 3 renewal. Both Ghost Wars and Superstition improved slightly, but not enough to help their standings. Those two are almost certainly headed to cancellation, especially considering the fact the Syfy just renewed Van Helsing and Z Nation with no comment on its struggling freshmen shows. On Friday, Agents of SHIELD actually improved despite the holiday to a 0.6 rating with 2.5 million total viewers (based on the preliminary numbers). That show will take a break next week then resume new episodes.
There will be no Sci Fi TV Status Report next week because I expect little in the way of news and there will be only a few shows with ratings results (and those numbers will be delayed due to the holiday). I will recap what ratings numbers are available by the end of the week, though.
Be sure to follow my weekly Sci-Fi TV Status Report column on Tuesdays which tracks the ratings results and renewal/cancellation prospects of the currently airing sci fi and fantasy shows. And you can get the latest ratings results at the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site.
