Sci Fi TV News: Netflix Moves Forward with The Witcher, A She-Ra Reboot is on the Way, and More

The Witcher Hour Approaches at Netflix

Netflix’s is pushing forward with its adaptation of The Witcher based on the books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski (and also the video games). Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who has written and executive produced Daredevil and The Defenders, will be leading the production. Variety gives the following description of the project:

The Witcher chronicles monster hunters who, with training and body modification, develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle deadly beasts.

The streaming service will likely target late 2018 for the show’s debut.




Netflix Gets Girl Power with She-Ra Reboot

The streaming service is working together with Dreamworks animation on a reboot of the 80’s cartoon series She-Ra. That show originally targeted a young female audience and was a spin-off from the popular He-Man and the Masters of the Universe which skewed more toward young males. Following is the synopsis Netflix has offered for the reboot:

From Eisner Award-winning author and executive producer Noelle Stevenson (Lumberjanes, Nimona) comes a modern take on the ‘80s girl power icon for a new generation of young fans. The trailblazing property originally debuted in 1985 to satisfy overwhelming demand for a female lead fantasy series. With Stevenson’s unique voice at the helm, fans are in store for an epic and timely tale that celebrates female friendship and empowerment, lead by a warrior princess tailor made for today. The series will be available to Netflix members worldwide in 2018.

The streaming service is currently targeting 2018 for the show’s debut.

Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow Headed to a Schedule Timeshare

Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow will timeshare the Monday 8 PM EST hour starting at mid-season. Supergirl resumes new episodes starting January 15th, and then Legends of Tomorrow will take up the timeslot starting February 12th to finish out its current season. Then Supergirl will be back on April 16th and air new episodes until June 18th. The CW is making this move because their schedule will be somewhat tight at mid-season with several new and returning shows and new series Black Lightning will take up LoT‘s 9 PM EST timeslot on Tuesdays starting January 16th. According to series star David Harbour, we will likely have to wait until 2019 for the third season of Stranger Things because the Duffer brothers need extra time to work on the scripts.
