Unless otherwise noted, the ratings numbers below are based on the final overnights and may vary slightly from the preliminaries reported on the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site.
Series Renewal: Netflix’s Voltron reboot has now streamed two seasons, receiving pretty good feedback from fans old and new, and apparently a third season of the show is on the way later this year. According to Den of Geek, a poster advertising the series at the Toy Fair indicates that the show’s third year and will arrive in September 2017. And apparently, Deamworks and Netflix have a commitment to produce 78 episodes of the show which means that we should expect at least six seasons total from the series if they stick to that. Voltron: Legendary Defender is a reboot of the Japanese Anime Best King GoLion with elements of the 80’s American adaption brought in as well. Among the voice actors on the show are genre favorites Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) and Tyler Labine (Deadbeat, Reaper).
Ratings Results of Interest: On Wednesday, Syfy’s The Expanse improved from the series low it posted the prior week as it pulled a 0.2 rating based on the overnights for the 18-49 demographic with 530k total viewers. Those are decent numbers for a Syfy entry these day, but I am not certain if that is enough to keep this rather expense series afloat. I look at that in more detail at this link. Over on FX, Legion slipped just a bit to a 0.49 rating with one million total viewers. If that one stabilizes around here, I believe it should be in good shape. On Thursday, USA’s Colony rebounded a bit from the low it posted the prior and pulled a 0.25 rating with 760k total viewers. That one still has a chance of getting a third season renewal nod. On Tuesday, Agents of SHIELD remained low at a 0.6 rating with two million total viewers and the fact that it is going on hiatus again for a month and a half will do little to help its ratings. On Monday, NBC’s Timeless improved to a 0.9 rating with three million total viewers for its season finale. But those numbers are low for an expensive NBC entry and the show’s fate is definitely in doubt at this point.
Charts: The Walking Dead remained at Number 1 in the cable Top 25 charts last week and even moved into the Number 1 slot on the Nielsen Social Rankings Top 10. Supernatural managed to sneak into that last chart as well at Number 7 showing that the venerable series still has engaged viewers after all these years. MacGyver slipped to Number 17 in the broadcast net Top 25 based on total viewers last week due to its ratings drop. But at least it remained in the chart.
Series | Chart | Curr Wk Rank | Prior Wk Rank |
MacGyver | Broadcast Net Top 25 (Total Viewers) | 17 | 12 |
Supernatural | Nielsen Social Net Ratings Top 10 | 7 | n/a |
