Cancellation Watch Breaking News: Netflix Renews Daredevil for 3rd Season, MTV’s Teen Wolf Will End with its 6th Season

Coming as no surprise, Netflix announced yesterday that Daredevil will be returning for a third season.  While the streaming service does not share the viewing numbers for its shows, Daredevil is known to have a strong audience and it has received plenty of acclaim from fans and critics across its first two seasons.  The show’s second season was made available on the service on March 18th and I have had it as Likely to be Renewed since then.  Apparently Netflix wanted to make the announcement during the San Diego Comic Con in their panel for upcoming series Luke Cage.  Daredevil is one of four shows that is part of the Defenders line-up.  The others are Jessica Jones (which bowed in Fall 2016 and his been renewed for a second season), Luke Cage (which debuts September 30th), and Iron Fist (which lands in early 2017).  There will also be a Defenders team-up series that will air mid to late 2017.

Also announced yesterday at Comic Con, MTV’s Teen Wolf will be ending with its upcoming sixth season.  Its sixth year will comprise twenty episodes which will get it to a total of one hundred, with the last acting as its series finale.  The announcement does not come as a huge surprise based on the show’s declining audience.  I thought it might go into a seventh season, but that was the max number of seasons I expected from it and considered it just as likely to end with its sixth.  The current episode order will be more than enough to assure that the show will live on in syndication which is where it will really start to turn a profit.  It will likely be broken up into two half seasons like the network has done the last few years, so expect new episodes to air through late 2017 or possibly early 2018.  The first half of season 6 will have its bow this coming November.
