Christmas is almost here and most of the currently airing sci fi / fantasy are on their winter hiatus. But in just a couple of weeks January will be kicking off and mid-season will be ramping up pretty quickly. You can get a first look at the schedule at this link which has over thirty shows set to return or debut between January and March including some highly anticipated new (and revival) shows like Legends of Tomorrow, Colony, The X-Files, and The Shannara Chronicles. The schedule has information on all the shows that I know about at the moment and I will continue to update it as new information comes available.
Note that there are three shows currently not scheduled that look to be in an iffy status at the moment. FOX’s The Last Man on Earth just wrapped up its Fall run, but does not have a slot on the mid-season schedule. Its ratings were not great the last few months, though, and FOX in general has been struggling, so this one could be on the outs. Person of Interest has yet to get a schedule slot for its shortened fifth season and it looks like it will probably show up late in the season to air out what will likely be its last batch of episodes. And The CW’s outbreak drama Containment didn’t get a spot on that network’s crowded schedule yet and may get shuffled to a late season run which did not work out well for The Messengers last year.
Shows which have (or will have) wrapped up their seasons by the end of December include The Librarians (renewed for a third season), Ash vs. Evil Dead (Renewed for a second season), Guardians of the Galaxy (renewed for a second season), Z Nation (renewed for a third season), The Leftovers (renewed for a third and final season), Doctor Who (tenth season looks likely), Into the Badlands (second season looks likely), Minority Report (episode order cut and likely cancelled), and Scream Queens (likely limited-run-and-done).
