Prime Time Sci Fi TV: Syfy Takes Over the Week with the Premieres of Childhood’s End, The Expanse, and The Magicians

Weekly roundup of science fiction and fantasy shows (as well as movies/specials of note) on the Prime Time TV schedule, also including programs that may be of interest to genre fans. Air dates and times subject to change without notice.

Most shows have already headed into their winter hiatus and Syfy is apparently taking advantage of the lull with an aggressive programming block for the week.  Their much anticipated mini-series Childhood’s End, based on the classic Arthur C. Clarke novel, airs in three parts from Monday through Wednesday.  In addition, their new space opera series The Expanse, based on the James S. A. Corey series of novels, debuts on Monday after Childhood’s End and then takes up it regular timeslot on Tuesdays the next day (the pilot is currently available for free viewing online at this link).  Also, Syfy will give a special preview of upcoming series The Magicians as the first episode of that show will air on Wednesday following Childhood’s End.  Then that one will continue after the Winter break starting on January 25th (The Expanse will air all of December and into January).  Apart from that, Supergirl and Limitless both air a new episode this week on CBS before taking a two week break then returning at the beginning of January.  Also, American Horror Story will have its Fall finale, Into the Badlands and Z Nation will have their season finales, Haven will have its series finale, and Ash vs. Evil Dead and The Librarians continue their ongoing runs throughout December.  So despite all the show taking breaks, there is still plenty to watch this week and you can start getting caught up on your DVR the last two weeks of the year.
