Unless otherwise noted, the ratings numbers below are based on the final overnights and may vary slightly from the preliminaries reported on the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site.
With not too much activity this past week as Summer winds down (and also being stretched for time), there’s no extended analysis this week and it may be the same next week as well. But there will be plenty to comment on from the first full weeks of Fall, so keep an eye out for that in two weeks as well as more of the posts prepping for the new season. (And you can see the full schedule at this link.)
Ratings results for the sci fi / fantasy shows airing Monday September 7th thru Sunday September 13th (metric definitions below):
The Whispers ABC Mon 9/7 10 PM
Rating: Season Ended | % Chng PW: n/a | Tot Viewers (MM): n/a | StD Rating: 0.8 | Cancellation Alert: Elevated
Season ended, awaiting word on a second season renewal.
Zoo CBS Tue 9/8 9 PM
Rating: 1.0 | % Chng PW: 0.0% | Tot Viewers (MM): 5.7 | StD Rating: 1.1 | Cancellation Alert: Moderate
This show held steady at a 1.0 rating which is not necessarily good, but I learned of the partnership that CBS has with Netflix on this one (at this link) which could help keep it afloat.
Chart Activity: With strong competition from football, this show dropped out of the broadcast network Top 25 based on the overnights for the 18-49 demographic for the first time this season. It did manage to place at Number 18 in the Top 25 based on total viewers which was down from the prior week’s Number 9 slot.
Scream MTV Tue 9/8 10 PM
Rating: Season Ended | % Chng PW: n/a | Tot Viewers (MM): n/a | StD Rating: 0.3 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed
Season ended. Returns for second season in 2016
Extant CBS Wed 9/9 9 PM
Rating: 0.7 | % Chng PW: +16.7% | Tot Viewers (MM): 4.5 | StD Rating: 0.7 | Cancellation Alert: Medium
This show improved slightly for its season finale, but I doubt enough to make a difference. Its fate will likely be tied to how strongly Amazon (who is partners with CBS on the show) wants it to stick around for a third year.
Chart Activity: This one dropped completely out of the broadcast network Top 25 based on total viewers for its season finale which is not a good thing.
Beauty and the Beast CW Thu 9/10 8 PM
Rating: 0.2 | % Chng PW: n/a | Tot Viewers (MM): 0.8 | StD Rating: 0.2 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed
No improvement in the numbers (from the repeat that aired the prior week) for this show’s season finale. But it’s coming back for a fourth year, so go figure . . .
Under the Dome CBS Thu 9/10 9 PM
Rating: 0.8 | % Chng PW: 0.0% | Tot Viewers (MM): 4.3 | StD Rating: 0.9 | Cancellation Alert: Cancelled
Its finale had to compete with the first NFL game of the season, so maybe that kept the numbers down. But I don’t remember hearing any whining about The Walking Dead‘s numbers as it has to contend with Sunday Night Football each week during the Fall . . .
Dominion Syfy Thu 9/10 10 PM
Rating: 0.3 | % Chng PW: +64.7% | Tot Viewers (MM): 0.8 | StD Rating: 0.3 | Cancellation Alert: Moderate
This show had a nice rebound (despite competition from football) from the series low it slipped to the prior week. If it can hold at these numbers, I still think it has a chance.
Z Nation Syfy Fri 9/11 10 PM
Rating: 0.4 | % Chng PW: n/a | Tot Viewers (MM): 0.9 | StD Rating: 0.4 | Cancellation Alert: Low
This show returned down from the 0.5 rating that it averaged for its first season, but Syfy will be happy to take these numbers which are better than anything else they have seen of late. Even if this one slips to the 0.3 range, it should still be safe seeing as it is an inexpensive entry for the network.
Continuum Syfy Fri 9/11 11 PM
Rating: 0.1 | % Chng PW: n/a | Tot Viewers (MM): 0.5 | StD Rating: 0.1 | Cancellation Alert: Final Season
The numbers were pretty low for its fourth season debut, but that’s not too surprising given its timeslot. And this one is in its final season anyway.
Fear the Walking Dead AMC Sun 9/13 9 PM
Rating: 3.6 | % Chng PW: n/a | Tot Viewers (MM): 7.2 | StD Rating: 4.2 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed
The numbers keep slipping for this show and I wouldn’t be too surprised if the drop a bit further over the next couple of weeks. But that 3.6 score still outrated anything on television this past week that didn’t start with the initials NFL. And I expect the numbers to jump back up for its season finale (which is in only three and a half weeks).
Chart Activity: This show slipped to Number 6 in the Weekly Nielsen Twitter Ratings Top 10 (down from Number 3). In the Cable Top 25 based on total viewers, it was at Number 2, beat out only by a college football game.
The Last Ship TNT Sun 9/13 9 PM
Rating: Season Ended | % Chng PW: n/a | Tot Viewers (MM): 2.8 | StD Rating: 0.7 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed
Season ended. Returns for its third season in 2016.
The Strain FX Sun 9/13 10 PM
Rating: 0.6 | % Chng PW: +12.0% | Tot Viewers (MM): 1.3 | StD Rating: 0.6 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed
This show improved slightly from the prior week as it heads into the final stretch of its second season.
