Showtime announced today that its sophomore supernatural series Penny Dreadful will be coming back for a third season. The show’s numbers have not been great during its second season, but the renewal does not come as a big surprise. It may not be a Game of Thrones type ratings performer, but it continues to generate good buzz (and it is a BAFTA award winner) and likely has international financing back it as well. I have had it at a Moderate Cancellation Alert over the last few weeks largely because it has not succeeded in growing its audience from its first year. But I only considered it marginally in danger cancellation and considered it more likely than not to get renewed. The third season will consist of nine episodes and will air in 2016.

I agree 100 %, but I didn’t see how they could come back after that finale. Do you know if they will introduce new characters.? How could I find out more ?
Yes, they are bringing in some new characters, one being Dr. Jeckle. If you are on Facebook go like their page. You will get some information there and other pages will follow for you to like… Also a lot of focus will be on Ethan and how he got like that… Love this show and can’t wait for season 3. The DVD for season 2 will be out sometime in October.
Thanks, I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. I’m so glad they’re coming back. There are so many ways they can go now. Those actors are so great .
This show is beyond fabulous . The writing and acting is awesome and it’s a thrill ride a minute.. I’m overjoyed to hear it was renewed for a third season and can’t imagine the low ratings..could it be because it’s on Showtime? Cable has become quite expensive, so I’m sure a lot of people don’t have it. I have the 1st season on DVD and ordered showtime because there was no way I was waiting to watch the 2nd season. It’s costing me a fortune, but I don’t care.
