Unless otherwise noted, the ratings numbers below are based on the final overnights and may vary slightly from the preliminaries reported on the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site.
Ratings results for the sci fi / fantasy shows airing Tuesday Feb 10th thru Thursday Feb 12th (analysis and metric definitions below):
The Flash CW Tue 2/10 8 PM
Rating: 1.5 | Tot Viewers (MM): 3.7 | StD Rating: 1.5 | Target: 0.9 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed
After slipping some, this show is continuing to pick up steam and it was actually the sixth highest rated show out of seventeen for the night. That’s an accomplishment for the fifth place network.
Agents of SHIELD ABC Tue 2/10 9 PM
Rating: On Hiatus | Tot Viewers (MM): n/a | StD Rating: 1.7 | Target: 2.0 | Cancellation Alert: Moderate
On hiatus until March 3rd.
Agent Carter ABC Tue 2/10 8 PM
Rating: 1.4 | Tot Viewers (MM): 4.3 | StD Rating: 1.5 | Target: 1.8 | Cancellation Alert: Moderate
A slight improvement from last week, but it needs to go out strong with its last two episodes.
Supernatural CW Tue 2/10 9 PM
Rating: 0.8 | Tot Viewers (MM): 2.0 | StD Rating: 0.9 | Target: 0.9 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed
It’s at its lowest level of the season, and you have to wonder if it hasn’t just grown too long in the tooth. The need to target next season as its last.
Forever ABC Tue 2/10 10 PM
Rating: 1.1 | Tot Viewers (MM): 4.6 | StD Rating: 1.2 | Target: 1.6 | Cancellation Alert: Moderate
It’s up from last week’s low, but I’m still not certain it is doing well enough to justify a second season. If it does get that, then ABC really was looking at the DVR numbers.
Person of Interest CBS Tue 2/10 10 PM
Rating: 1.6 | Tot Viewers (MM): 9.5 | StD Rating: 1.6 | Target: 1.7 | Cancellation Alert: Low
This show is edging back up, CBS needs to cool it with the repeats and preemptions. Those keep killing its momentum.
Arrow CW Wed 2/11 8 PM
Rating: 1.1 | Tot Viewers (MM): 2.7 | StD Rating: 1.0 | Target: 0.9 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed
Another good outing and the DC characters continue to perform well for The CW. More are certainly on the way, though I have an idea on on the best way to handle that.
The 100 CW Wed 2/11 9 PM
Rating: 0.5 | Tot Viewers (MM): 1.4 | StD Rating: 0.5 | Target: 0.7 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed
This show just can’t seem to improve its audience and I’m wondering if The CW may make its third season its last.
Vampire Diaries CW Thu 2/12 8 PM
Rating: 0.7 | Tot Viewers (MM): 1.5 | StD Rating: 0.8 | Target: 0.9 | Cancellation Alert: Renewed
This one continues to fly low, but I guess The CW feels like it is doing well enough for now.
Ratings Results: It has been looking like a ratings slump has set in across the broadcast networks similar to the one we saw about this time last year, but on Tuesday the sci fi / fantasy entries managed to defy that for one night at least as all but one saw their numbers improve. The CW’s The Flash had a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, its best numbers since its Fall finale and it was actually the second highest rated genre entry for the night. ABC’s Agent Carter improved to a 1.4 rating, its best since its second episode. ABC’s Forever had a 1.1 score, which was its best level since Fall. And CBS’ Person of Interest improved to a 1.6. And perhaps both of those last two shows can hold there or better if their networks quit preempting them. The only genre entry that did not improve for the evening was Supernatural which held steady at a 0.8 rating. Those improvements for the ABC and CBS shows are in truth pretty small, but anything can help in the current ratings environment. There was a point as recently as the first half of last year where numbers like that would assure cancellation, but the networks aren’t so quick to pull the trigger these days. I still have Agent Carter and Forever at a Moderate Cancellation Alert level, and I’m keeping them there for now. We will have to see how the numbers play out over the coming months and whether these two shows can cling to life at their current levels.
