The Charts: Vampire Diaries Returns to the Social Network Charts, Witches of East End Improves for Season Finale

The CW’s aging series Vampire Diaries may have had a less than stellar debut in the ratings for its sixth season, but the show continues to stir up plenty of activity among those who frequent the social networks. That series landed at the Number 4 slot for the week on the Nielsen Twitter Ratings that measure activity on Twitter related to the live broadcast of TV shows. And it made it to the Number 3 slot on the General Sentiment charts that measure activity across several social networks for broadcast net shows. Vampire Diaries made it into the Top 10 of the Nielsen Twitter Ratings for its season premiere last year as well, but then dropped out after that. However, it was a fixture on the GetGlue charts that measured social activity last year (that site has since changed its name to TV Tag and dropped the charts) and I expect it and most of the other CW shows to be regular entries on the General Sentiment charts this year.

Other chart activity of interest for last week: Witches of East End improved to the Number 8 slot on the General Sentiment cable charts for its two hour season finale. Star Wars: Rebels premiered in the Cable Top 25 based on total viewers and also made it into the General Sentiment charts. Agents of SHIELD may be struggling in the ratings, but it still continues to rank in the General Sentiment Top 25 for the broadcast nets. Resurrection fell out of the broadcast net Top 25 based on the ratings and Once Upon A Time fell out of the Top 25 based on total viewers.
