Sci Fi TV Development Report: Supergirl and Titans Shows from DC in the Works, Plus a New Stephen King Series and an Update on Minority Report

News, updates, and (mostly viable) rumors relating to development of science fiction / fantasy television productions.

Supergirl and Titans – Marvel studios seems to own the big screen these days, at least as far as superheros are concerned.  So DC appears intent on going after the small screen as the will have four shows on the Fall schedule (Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, and Constantine) with at least two more in the works.  Arrow’s Greg Berlanti is working with ABC on a Supergirl series which according to Deadline Hollywood will offer “a new interpretation of the Supergirl character and her story”.   Renown DC writer Geoff Johns will be working on the project as well.  In addition, TNT is looking at a pilot for a series based on the Titans group which Hollywood Report describes thusly: “The proposed one-hour drama follows Dick Grayson aka Nightwing, who leads superhero team, Titans, which includes Starfire, Raven and many others.”  Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) and Marc Haimes (Transformers) are attached to this project.  But don’t be looking for a major TV crossover with all these DC characters because of the different networks they air on.

The Things They Left Behind – CBS has given a pilot order for a series based on the Stephen King short story “The Things They Left Behind”.  Arrow‘s Greg Berlanti (he’s a busy guy, apparently) is attached and Hollywood Reporter gives this description for the series concept: “One-hour drama project follows unlikely pair of investigators carrying out the unfinished business of the dead”.  The network has given a put-pilot commitment meaning that there are steep penalties if they do not air the pilot.

Minority Report – The plans for a TV series based on the Steven Spielberg’s big screen adaptation of Phillip K. Dick’s Minority Report that we previously reported have now turned into a pilot commitment from FOX.  Following is the description of the show’s premise given by Variety:

The series is set as a sequel to the movie, 10 years after the end of “precrime” in Washington, D.C. One of the three “precogs” is struggling to lead a normal life, but is haunted by visions of the future. He meets a detective haunted by her past, who may help him find a purpose to his gift.

Godzilla‘s Max Borenstein will be writing the pilot and FOX’s commitment requires them to air it otherwise they will pay a significant penalty.
