Prime Time Sci Fi TV: True Blood Wraps Up its Seven Year Run, Plus Season Finales for The Last Ship and Defiance

New or notable science fiction and fantasy entries on the Prime Time TV schedule, also including programs that may be of interest to genre fans. Air dates and times subject to change.

The Summer season is starting to wrap up and this coming week brings the series finale of HBO’s True Blood as well as the season finales for TNT’s The Last Ship and Syfy’s Defiance.  More finales will be rolling out in the coming weeks and the Fall season gets an early kick-off the second week of September (full schedule to follow shortly).  Teen Wolf fans should take note that a new episode will air on Sunday at 7 PM EST before the VMAs.  This episode repeats in its regular Monday timeslot for those who can’t catch in on Sunday.  Three series will be doubling up episodes this week: Extant (CBS), Defiance (Syfy), and The Quest (ABC).  On Saturday, Syfy offers its latest sharks-run-amok entry Bait, and I will let the description from the TV Guide site speak for itself:

A powerful tsunami sends ocean waters rushing into an underground supermarket, prompting the terrified shoppers to fight for their lives as vicious man-eating sharks glide down the aisles in search of a fresh meal.
