The Charts: Extant is Almost Out of the Top 25

CBS’ freshman series Extant has fallen considerably in the charts since it debuted back in early July.  When that show had its bow on July 9th, it did well enough to rank a the Number 8 slot for the week based on its ratings in the 18-49 demographic and at Number 1 based on total viewers.  Since then it has been mostly downhill, though, and last week it reached the very edge of the Top 25  based on ratings as it fell to the Number 25 slot.  For total viewers, it still has a little wiggle room at the Number 17 slot, but it has continually slipped there as well.  This high profile series debuted to big expectations, but it has not delivered the ratings that CBS surely expected from the show.  In its favor, Amazon is picking up part of the production costs in exchange for exclusive streaming rights, but I’m not sure how much that will factor in to whether this show will receive a second season.  At this point, I’m thinking it is likely CBS would prefer to back out and Amazon may have to foot the entire bill or work out a new partnership if they want additional seasons.

As for the other genre entries in the charts, almost every show dropped last week, though not by a lot.  For those looking for Dominion on the General Sentiment charts, they only track activity across the social networks for shows currently airing new episodes and that series wrapped up its first season two weeks ago.
