Prime Time Sci Fi TV: Doctor Who and The Intruders Have Their Debuts on BBC America

New or notable science fiction and fantasy entries on the Prime Time TV schedule, also including programs that may be of interest to genre fans. Air dates and times subject to change.

Doctor Who returns to BBC America this Saturday with a new look (Peter Capaldi replacing Matt Smith) and a new season (the eighth since the 2005 restart).  And then in the next hour, new series The Intruders also debuts on BBC America, this one about a secret society seeking immortality by using other people’s bodies (created by X-Files veteran Glen Morgan).   Later on Saturday will be the Doctor Who discussion show hosted by Chris Hardwick (who also happens to host The Walking Dead‘s discussion show).  Throughout the week, BBC America will be running Doctor Who episodes from past seasons and on Monday they will air the special Doctor Who – The Ultimate Time Lord.  These two shows will give us the last of the Summer premieres, but–believe it or not–the early Fall premieres are only a few weeks away.  Keep an eye out for the Fall schedule here shortly.  Also of note for this coming week, both CBS’ Extant and Syfy’s Defiance will air back-to-back new episodes on their regular nights.  The former to accommodate the scheduling shift of moving its season finale up one week and the latter will do that two week’s in a row to wrap up its second season (is Syfy trying to hurry it off the schedule by chance?).
