Prime Time Sci Fi TV: More Summer Debuts With True Blood, The Last Ship, Falling Skies, and Teen Wolf, Plus Finales for Continuum and Orphan Black

New or notable science fiction and fantasy entries on the Prime Time TV schedule, also including programs that may be of interest to genre fans.

The Summer season is kicking it up a notch this week with the premieres of four shows: True Blood (HBO), The Last Ship (TNT), Falling Skies (TNT), and Teen Wolf (MTV).  Next week will bring more debuts as HBO’s The Leftovers has its bow as well as CBS entry Under the Dome.  And there’s even more on the way this Summer which you can see at this link.  And for those interested, next Saturday will bring us Syfy’s latest critters-run-amok entry with Snakehead Swamp.  Also of note, this week Syfy will start its encore run of STARZ’s Spartacus on Thursday nights.  But considering that the sex, nudity, violence, and profanity will be edited out, I imagine the episodes will only run thirty minutes (they will fill in the space with commercials I’m sure).  For those who have not seen the series, this may be an opportunity to get an idea of what it is about, but if you find you like it you will probably want to get it unedited on DVD or download.  For this week’s movie of note, on Wednesday BBC America will be playing the 70’s classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind.  It was a groundbreaking movie even if it could be somewhat of a mess at times, but the final alien landing scenes delivers some all-time great moments for sci fi cinema.
