Unless otherwise noted, the ratings numbers below are based on the final overnights and may vary slightly from the preliminaries reported on the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site.
Ratings Results: Still not much ratings activity as the “bridge season” continues to wind down, but Summer will be kicking into high gear shortly starting next week with the premieres of Defiance (returning for its second season) and new series Dominion. There are still some numbers to report from this past week starting with HBO’s Game of Thrones which pulled a 3.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic on Sunday with right at seven million total viewers. That’s a couple of ticks down from the highs it posted the last couple of weeks but expect the show to possibly crack the 4.0 barrier this coming Sunday with its Season 4 finale (and expect plenty of bloodshed as well). Over on Showtime, Penny Dreadful had a 0.3 rating with 0.9 million total viewers. That one has been renewed for a second season. Also on Sunday, FOX’s Cosmos pulled a 1.1 rating and 3.1 million total viewers for its penultimate episode. I’ve heard some rumblings of a possible second season of the show (it was originally planned as a limited-run “event” series), and I guess that could happen with it again taking up the bridge slot between seasons. Those are just rumors, though, so it’s only speculation at this point. NBC’s Believe was preempted for that latest random “special presentation”, but that one wraps up its one and only season this coming Sunday. On Monday, The CW’s Beauty and the Beast slipped back to its usual 0.3 rating with 0.8 million total viewers. I guess those numbers are good enough for Summer and I’m thinking that is where this show will air its third season next year. On Tuesday, The Wil Wheaton Project could only scrape up a 0.1 rating with about 250k total viewers. I’m thinking that show needs to get its numbers up lest Wheaton’s joke about getting replaced by gh0st-hunting hillbillies could come true. Then again, his show is pretty darn cheap to produce, so maybe those numbers are good enough. On Wednesday, The CW’s The 100 slipped a tick to a 0.5 rating with 1.7 million total viewers (based on the preliminaries) for its season finale. That show has been renewed for a second season despite its somewhat tepid ratings.
The Charts: As expected, not much non-Game of Thrones activity here. That HBO series did top the list of cable shows for the week of June 2nd to 8th and it came in at the Number 4 slot on the Nielsen Twitter Rankings. The only other chart activity for the week was a repeat of Person of Interest landing at the Number 20 slot on the broadcast network Top 25 based on total viewers.
As mentioned, Syfy’s Defiance and Dominion have their premieres next week, and more sci fi / fantasy entries will be joining them over the next few weeks for the Summer 2014 season. You can see that schedule plus the premiere dates at this link. And for a complete rundown of this past season’s shows go to the Cancellation Watch page.
