Barbary Coast: The Complete Series
This was a short-lived, spy fi/western series in the vein of Wild Wild West that starred William Shatner and Doug McClure and hit airwaves in 1975. It follows the adventures of government agent Jeff Cable (Shatner) who partners with the saloon owner Cash Conover (McClure, though played by Dennis Cole in the pilot) to do battle with various nefarious threats that happen to pass through the renown Barbary Coast of San Francisco in the 1880′s. The series ran for only thirteen episodes after the pilot and it tended to be more western than spy fi, but it could be fun at times and it gave Shatner the opportunity to step away from his iconic Captain Kirk character and ham it up in various disguises as he gave us a mash-up of the James West and Artemus Gordon characters from WWW. This series has rarely been seen since it first aired back in the mid-70’s, but now all of the episodes are collected together for the first time in one DVD set.
