Description: Penned by Max Landis and from the producers of The Walking Dead, the series is a comedic thriller that follows the bizarre adventures of eccentric “holistic” detective Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) and his reluctant assistant Todd (Elijah Wood). The series is an adaptation of Douglas Adams’ (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) wildly successful comic novels, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, and is set in the unexpected world of the hyper, absurd, eponymous detective. Why Was It Cancelled? This show debuted to low ratings in its first year and saw those slip even further in its second season. The renewal after the show’s first season came as somewhat of a surprise, but Netflix was onboard as a partner and had the international distribution rights. But apparently that was not enough to keep the show going for a third season, and BBC America made the call to cancel it. Dirk Gently did develop a small but loyal following and they have started a Call to Action to save the show with an online petition that received over 10K signatures in under 24 hours.
